Be clear about what you are commissioning
A commissioned UGC-style asset is paid creator production. It should not be passed off as an unsolicited customer review. A studio shoot is a different production arrangement, not a synonym for content that people will dislike.
For this decision, write down the deliverable: a person explaining a product, a detailed demonstration, a set of clean pack shots, a brand film or several short variations. Then choose the production skills and resources required.
Compare creative needs, not stereotypes
Creator-led production can suit a direct-to-camera explanation or a believable use setting when the creator has genuine experience. A controlled shoot can suit precise product detail, coordinated scenes or complex production requirements. Either can be weak if the brief is unclear.
Do not make deliberate mistakes to look authentic. Accurate claims, understandable sound and a visible demonstration matter regardless of the production style. Paid creator work should still disclose the commercial relationship where required.
Specify the route and rights
An asset for the brand to publish does not automatically include a post to the creator's audience. A post does not automatically grant paid usage, raw files or endless revisions. Separate those decisions in the brief and agreement.
On Vouched, a cash UGC campaign currently uses the model on the brief: payment per 1,000 verified views, a base plus those views, or a flat fee per approved video. Do not assume every UGC job is a flat production fee.
- State the number of assets and versions, duration and orientation.
- Choose file delivery, creator posting or both where supported.
- Agree revisions, source-material access and intended usage.
- Use a private draft to review the complete scope before committing funds.
Common questions
Is UGC automatically cheaper or more effective than studio production?
No. Compare a real scope, quote and objective. A lighter production setup can reduce some requirements, but it does not establish universal cost or performance superiority.
